BRIEF: Murder charges filed in fatal shooting of worker at Northwest Side bar

April 15--First-degree murder charges have been filed in the shooting death of a Northwest Side bar worker who was hit by a bullet fired through the window.

Police say Felix Valentin, 28, was arrested at his home after he was identified as the person who fired the shot around 11:45 p.m. April 2 outside Brudder's Bar Grill at 3600 N. Pulaski Road. Angel J. Ortiz Jr., 51, was struck and died the next day at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Valentin was taken into custody Wednesday night and was due in bond court later Friday, authorities said.

The bar was closed after the shooting while police reviewed security there. The owner, George Michael, said he was offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

"He was working one night a week checking IDs at the door," said Michael, who opened the bar in 1991. "He was just trying to make some extra money for his family. It's a tragedy."

Brudder's was equipped with video surveillance inside and outside the bar and the recordings were handed over to the police.
