BRIEF: Motorist dead following West Side crash

Jan. 01--A 31-year-old man has died after the car he was driving plowed into a building on the West Side early Friday.

The man was driving a 2006 Nissan at a high rate of speed when he lost control and the Nissan hit a building in the 600 block of North Pulaski Road at 3:10 a.m., said Officer Janel Sedevic, a spokeswoman for Chicago police.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office was not immediately releasing the man's name.

He was the only person inside the Nissan, of an unknown model.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the crash.
