BRIEF: Motorcyclist dead, 2 hurt in I-57 crash

Aug. 02--A motorcyclist was killed and two other people were injured in a crash late Saturday on Interstate 57 on the Far South Side, police said.

A motorcycle collided with two cars in the southbound lanes of I-57 near 119th Street around midnight, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Bridget Gilgenberg.

A male driver and a female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash, state police said.

The driver of the motorcycle, whose age was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene, Gilgenberg said.

The female passenger was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Gilgenberg said.

A woman, who was driving one of the cars, was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center, where her condition stabilized, state police said.

The ages of the two female victims were also not immediately available.

The southbound lanes of I-57 were shut down until about 4 a.m. Sunday while officials investigated the accident.

Alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the crash, according to state police.

Police are still investigating.
