Jan. 22--Moto, one of the most creative restaurants in a city known for culinary creativity, will serve its final meal on Feb. 14.
The restaurant (945 W. Fulton Market), which lasted more than 11 years and even survived the passing of its creator, chef Homaro Cantu (who died in April), has been sold to the Alinea Group (Nick Kokonas, Grant Achatz and others).
"This bittersweet decision comes after deep reflection of the lasting impact my husband, the late chef Homaro Cantu, made with his first restaurant," said owner Katie McGowan, Cantu's wife, in a press release. "A true visionary, Homaro fused his love of food with his genius for science."
The purchase makes sense for the Alinea folks, who already have Next at 953 W. Fulton Market and are developing the former iNG space (951 W. Fulton Market) into Roister, which will open later this year.
Achatz and Kokonas, both out of the country, could not be reached for comment.
