BRIEF: Mother, her 2 young children among 4 found dead in Rockford

Dec. 21--A 24-year-old mother, her two young sons and a man were discovered fatally wounded late Friday night in a Rockford home, police said.

About 11:20 p.m. Friday, Rockford police responded to call of gunshots at 3234 Montrose Ave. A neighbor near that location initially heard pounding on a door, followed by the sound of a door being forced open. Shortly after, the neighbor heard gunshots, said police.

When officers arrived, they discovered four gunshot victims inside the home. All four were pronounced dead by paramedics, police said.

The dead include Martia Flint, 24; her two sons, Tyrone Smith III, 6, and Tobias K. Smith, 4; and Martia Flint's friend Demontae Rhodes, also 24, police said.

Rockford police have no motive for the killings, and anyone who has information is asked to call the shift commander at 815-963-7867.
