BRIEF: Storms, hail today in wake of cool front

June 11--Heavy rain, hail and winds up to 60 mph are in the forecast for Chicago on Thursday in the wake of a cool front.

Scattered storms are predicted to start late morning, around 10 a.m. or 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest storms will be in the area between about 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., said weather service meteorologist Matt Friedlein.

The strongest storms may bring golf ball-size hail, wind gusts of up to 60 mph and localized flooding. The storms could spin off tornadoes in the afternoon in some places in northern Illinois, Freidlein said.

The storms are expected to continue Friday through the weekend.
