March 15--The Cubs' Jake Arrieta pitched well in his second Cactus League start Monday in a 10-2 loss to the Padres at Sloan Park. Jorge Soler had a couple of misadventures in left field, and Pierce Johnson was pummeled.
At the plate
Kris Bryant went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, and Dexter Fowler delivered an RBI single. The Cubs finished with only six hits.
On the mound
Arrieta allowed one run on two hits in four innings, striking out five. Johnson served up two home runs in a four-run fifth.
In the field
Soler, who is hitting .059, had two fielding miscues. He turned a fly ball to left into an RBI double in the third, then let a single skip off his glove to the wall as the runner rounded the bases.
Attendance watch
The Cubs became the first team to surpass the 100,000 mark with a major-league-leading 102,967.
The quote
"It's kind of freaky. I don't think anyone could do what he does, or (maybe) a limited number of guys can in the baseball industry. His flexibility is ridiculous." -- manager Joe Maddon on Arrieta's conditioning
