The defending American League Cy Young winner -- 0-5 with a 5.04 earned-run average on Mother's Day -- won his first game this season on Wednesday, giving up one hit and striking out 18 in eight shutout innings.
"It was shaking and I thought it was going to blow up or something. I wanted no part of that."
-- Billy Hamilton, Cincinnati Reds center fielder, on playing in front of an outfield smokestack that caught fire during Friday's game at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames, and no injuries were reported.
