BRIEF: Michigan man plows into truck loaded with 40,000 pounds of dynamite

Feb. 25--A Michigan man remained in critical condition Wednesday after he survived crashing into a semi truck loaded with 40,000 pounds of dynamite, officials told the Los Angeles Times.

William Watson, 59, of Hawks, Mich., was driving his empty big rig through the Garden Township in Michigan's upper peninsula Tuesday morning when he rear-ended the semi loaded with the dynamite, which was making a left turn, according to the Delta County Sheriff's Office.

The dynamite did not explode.

The driver of the dynamite truck, Erik Somers, 60, was uninjured. Watson, however, was severely hurt and had to be removed from his cab with the Jaws of Life and airlifted to a hospital, officials said.

Marquette General Hospital confirmed Watson's medical condition to The Times on Wednesday morning.
