BRIEF: Michelle Obama encourages postsecondary education

Oct. 19--First lady Michelle Obama will unveil the "Better Make Room" initiative Monday at the White House.

The public awareness campaign aims to urge teens ages 14 to 19 to stay in school after high school, whether to study a trade or attend college. Its website is BetterMakeRoom.org.

Her aides said celebrities such as NBA standout LeBron James and social media sites such as Vine and AwesomenessTV will help spread the word to the post-millennials known as Generation Z.

Tina Tchen, chief of staff for the first lady, said the cause was a "personal passion" for Obama.

"You should think about the first lady as school-counselor-in-chief for the entire country," Tchen said.
