BRIEF: Michael Phelps adjusts Olympic tuneup for birth of first child

May 03--It seems that only one thing could get in the way of Michael Phelps' preparations for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The birth of his son.

The newly rededicated Phelps informed officials Tuesday that he will skip the upcoming Atlanta Classic -- an important tuneup meet for the U.S. Olympic trials -- to be with fiancee Nicole Johnson.

The couple is expecting its first child and plan to get married after the Games.

"We understand some of you may have purchased tickets to see Michael Phelps," the meet stated on its website. "We will respectfully refund your tickets if you choose not to attend."

The Atlanta Classic is scheduled for May 13-15.

Phelps will still have the opportunity to swim at a Texas meet before the trials.
