BRIEF: Mets GM Sandy Alderson jokes after collapsing during news conference at Citi Field

Nov. 04--New York Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson gave everyone in the Citi Field interview room a scare Wednesday morning.

During a news conference to announce a contract extension for Manager Terry Collins, Alderson was in mid-sentence while talking to reporters when he turned white and collapsed to the floor.

He stayed there, passed out, for about 30 seconds before coming to and sitting in a chair.

Then the 67-year-old smiled and asked, "OK, where were we?" before leaving the room without needing assistance.

Alderson hadn't eaten breakfast that morning and the hot TV lights made him feel lightheaded, a team official told reporters about 20 minutes later. Alderson was found to be in good condition by the team's training staff but is still expected to see a doctor.

Collins, who managed the Mets into the World Series this season, was given a two-year deal through 2017.
