BRIEF: Metro Blue Line train derails after striking car on tracks in Compton

Nov. 23--A Metro light rail train derailed Monday morning after striking a car on the tracks near Compton, sheriff's officials said.

The Blue Line train collided with the car about 7:30 a.m. at 119th Street and Willowbrook Avenue, said Ramon Montenegro, a spokesman of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Transit Policing Division. The force of the collision caused the train to come off the tracks but none of the cars overturned.

The driver of the car suffered injuries, he said. The extent of the driver's injuries was not immediately known.

Metro officials suspended service for the Blue Line between the Willowbrook-Rosa Parks and Compton stations. Metro said service would delayed up to 20 minutes due to the crash.
