BRIEF: Metra trains delayed when rail ties catch fire on South Side

Aug. 14--Piles of railroad ties caught fire on the South Side on Thursday afternoon, delaying at least two trains on Metra's Southwest Service Line.

The fire started around 2 p.m. along tracks near a rail yard at 47th and State streets, officials said.

Metra said at least two trains were stopped by the fire, and it was still reporting delays on the line as of 4:30 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries. Check back for updates.
