Dec. 07--A Metra train struck and killed a pedestrian in west suburban River Grove early Monday morning, halting service on the Milwaukee District West Line.
The person was hit just before 6 a.m., according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed a fatality but had no further details.
Metra planned to use North Central Service Line trains to help with service on the Milwaukee District West Line because both lines meet in Franklin Park.
But extensive delays were expected through the morning rush hour. Commuters were encouraged to check the Metra website for updates.
