BRIEF: Metra train fatally strikes pedestrian in northwest suburban Cary

Dec. 26--A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Metra train in far northwest suburban Cary early Friday morning, authorities said.

Train No. 608 on Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line hit a pedestrian shortly after 6 a.m. near Three Oaks Road north of the Metra station in Cary, said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The pedestrian's age and gender and the details of the fatal incident were immediately unavailable, Gillis said.

Inbound and outbound train movement near Cary has been halted and extensive delays are anticipated.

Commuters are urged to check Metra's website for updates.
