BRIEF: Metra train fatally hits pedestrian in Oak Forest

Dec. 19--A woman was fatally struck by a Metra train in southwest suburban Oak Forest early Friday, authorities said.

The accident happened around 12:10 a.m. shortly after a train on Metra's Rock Island District line left the Oak Forest station near Cicero Avenue and 159th Street, according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The train, scheduled to arrive in Joilet at 12:44 a.m., was stopped while officials investigated, Gillis said.

Details about the victim were not immediately available.
