BRIEF: Metra train derails north of Union Station, delays expected

May 27--A Metra train that was to be used for the Milwaukee District West Line derailed Friday afternoon as it was being brought into Union Station, officials said.

The incident happened at 3:10 p.m. near Canal Street as the train, which did not have any passengers, was being brought into the station from a nearby rail yard, according to Metra Spokesman Michael Gillis.

The train was to be used as a Milwaukee District West Line train which was scheduled to depart at 3:25 p.m. but several wheels left the track, said Gillis. The train will not operate, according to the Metra website.

The derailment will affect the Milwaukee West and North Lines, North Central Service and Heritage Corridor lines which leave the station on from the north.
