BRIEF: Merit Club to host prestigious women's golf event

Nov. 25--The Merit Club has stepped in for Rich Harvest Farms to host the 2016 UL International Crown, an international team match-play event featuring many of the top players in women's golf.

A highly regarded private club in Gurnee that hosted the 2000 U.S. Women's Open and counts Michael Jordan as a member, the Merit Club was selected by the LPGA Tour to host the July 21-24 event.

"We were flattered by the many suitors with championship r鳵m鳠who came forward with the hopes of providing the stage for this event," LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan said in a statement. "The Merit Club has wonderful history and prestige and will offer a spectacular backdrop to see which country will take home the Crown."

Merit Club general manager Don Pieper said: "The U.S. Women's Open was such a big success in 2000 and we can't wait to showcase the world's best golfers as they compete for their country to see who will take home the Crown."

The UL International Crown features players from eight countries. The nations that qualified to compete in 2014 were Australia, Chinese Taipei, Japan, The Republic of Korea, Spain, Sweden, the United States and Thailand.
