Aug. 25--Chicago Megabus drivers ratified a three-year labor agreement that will raise wages by more than 10 percent over the life of the deal, the union said Tuesday.
Stephen Sombrotto, president of United Workers of America, said in an emailed statement that the workers will get a $250 ratification bonus. The contract, which also gives drivers a total of eight sick days over three years, was ratified by a two-thirds majority, Sombrotto said.
The union represents more than 140 bus drivers in Chicago who were paid about $15 per hour, the lowest compensation for drivers represented by the union.
Sombrotto said the contract narrowed the gap between the Chicago workers and those the union represents in the Northeast.
In a statement, Megabus Spokesman Sean Hughes said the company looks forward to the swift implementation of the contract.
"Megabus is very pleased that we were able to come to an amicable agreement with the United Workers of America," Hughes said.
