June 13--After hosting three Western Opens, five majors and the 2012 Ryder Cup, Medinah Country Club is back in the game.
As first reported by the Tribune, Medinah members on Saturday overwhelmingly approved a vote to host the 2019 BMW Championship, a FedEx Cup playoff event.
"I'm ecstatic," said Medinah member Jason Kinander, a director of the Western Golf Association, which sponsors the BMW. "The membership realizes we'd be remiss if we did not host these marquee events."
Conway Farms, in Lake Forest, will host the BMW this fall and in 2017. The event moves to Crooked Stick, near Indianapolis, in 2016 and to Aronimink, outside Philadelphia, in 2018.
Medinah's commitment ensures that greater Chicago will remain in the mix, and Kinander said that if the event is a "smash success," the club and PGA Tour likely will keep Medinah in a BMW rotation.
The west suburban (DuPage County) club has a rich history, iconic clubhouse and its Course No. 3, which will host the BMW, is 39th on Golf Digest's latest rankings of America's Greatest Courses.
