Oct. 20--Bones discovered in the West Garfield Park neighborhood appear to be human leg bones from an adult, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The bones were found about 5:30 p.m. Monday in a wooded area in the 400 block of North Kilbourn Avenue, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
The remains are believed to be right and left femurs with decomposed soft tissue, said Becky Schlikerman, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office.
Investigators also found adult clothing with the remains, Schlikerman said.
Officials said the bones were too large to belong to a child, and the preliminary results from the office will be confirmed through an anthropology consultation in the next two weeks, she said.
If the bones are confirmed to be human, they will undergo a DNA analysis, which will take several months. Determination of the cause and manner of death is pending.
