BRIEF: McLaren spins Spider web with 675LT convertible

Dec. 03--McLaren has added a Spider to its lineup and will shortly begin selling the open-top version of its recently unveiled 675LT.

The convertible version weighs 2,800 pounds, dry -- 220 pounds less than the hardtop -- and delivers an impressive 666 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from a twin turbo V8 engine.

The British automotive company said the Spider, like the LT hardtop, boasts a top speed of 205 mph and a zero-to-60 mph time of under 2.9 seconds.

The Spider will have exclusive paint, and model-specific 20-spoke alloy wheels.

The new convertible -- McLaren also sells a Spider version of its 650S -- joins an impressive list of fellow McLaren models, the fifth in a 2015 line that also includes the McLaren P1 GTR, 570S Coupe and hardtop 675LT.

And it comes at a price. "The most focused, fastest and exhilarating open top McLaren has ever built," the company said in making the announcement, will have an MSRP of $372,600 -- a bit more than the $349,500 McLaren gets for the hardtop version.
