BRIEF: Matt Cassel traded to Buffalo Bills by Minnesota Vikings

March 04--Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills have found their next quarterback, and it's Matt Cassel.

The Vikings agreed to trade the veteran quarterback to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for draft-pick compensation, the teams announced Wednesday. The trade will not become official until the new NFL year begins on Tuesday.

According to Fox Sports, the trade includes the Bills sending their 2015 first-round pick from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a 2016 seventh-round pick in exchange for Minnesota's 2015 sixth-round slot.

Cassel, who appeared in three games with the Vikings last season before suffering a season-ending injury, will compete with EJ Manuel for the team's starting role. Manuel struggled last season in Buffalo and eventually took a backseat to veteran Kyle Orton.

Orton, 32, announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Cassel played at USC and was a standout at Chatsworth High School before making his NFL debut in 2005 with the New England Patriots. If he does land the Bills' starting job, he'll likely handoff a lot to newly acquired running back LeSean McCoy.
