BRIEF: Mary Zimmerman adapts 'Treasure Island' for Lookingglass Theatre

March 09--Mary Zimmerman, the widely acclaimed Chicago theater artist behind such titles as "Metamorphoses" and "The Arabian Nights," is to adapt Robert Louis Stevenson's classic swashbuckler "Treasure Island" for the Lookingglass Theatre Company.

The show, announced Monday, will be the first production in the 2015-16 Lookingglass season and will open Oct. 17 and continue through the holiday season. In the spring, the family-friendly production will move to the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in California. Berkeley Rep is a co-producer of this new version of the adventures of Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver. In Chicago, the show will be staged at the Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. Single tickets ($35-$85) go on sale in August at lookingglasstheatre.org
