Sept. 04--At least eight people have been wounded in shootings across the city since late Thursday morning, police said.
In the most recent attack, a 59-year-old man was critically wounded after he was shot around 2:40 a.m. in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Amina Greer, Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.
The man was riding a bicycle in the 8100 block of South Emerald Avenue when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been struck, Greer said.
He was shot in the thigh and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Greer said.
At the scene, officers blocked off a small stretch of Emerald with yellow crime tape.
A bicycle was on its side in the middle of the road.
No one was in custody in connection to the shooting, and no other information was available about the incident.
About 10:55 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the foot while he was at a gas station in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the Far South Side, Greer said.
The man was pumping gas at the BP station in the 7400 block of South Stony Island Avenue when a gunman approached and fired shots, striking his foot, police said.
The man managed to get to Jackson Park Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Greer said.
About 9:45 p.m., an 18-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman
The man was riding a bicycle in the 2500 block of West Hirsch Street when a vehicle approached him and someone inside fired shots at him, Greer said.
The man was shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Greer said.
About 5:50 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the right foot in the 3300 block of West Huron Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman. The man was taken to Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was in good condition.
In the West Garfield Park neighborhood, three people were shot about 3 p.m., Zala said. Two men, ages 19 and 36, were shot in the leg, and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition. A third person shot declined medical attention and refused to speak to police.
A 19-year-old man was shot and wounded late Thursday morning on the West Side in the Fifth City neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 11:25 a.m. in the 300 block of South Kedzie Avenue, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.
Preliminary reports stated a man had a wound to the left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Information about the circumstances of the shootings was not released by police.
