March 05--A man was shot to death and at least five people, including a 14-year-old boy, were wounded in separate shootings Friday on the city's South, West and Northwest sides, Chicago police said.
Most recently, a 44-year-old man died after getting shot about 9:30 p.m. in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.
The man, identified as Wavey Brown, of the 300 block of Washington Street in north suburban Waukegan, was arguing with a male in an alley in the 5000 block of South Calumet Avenue when the male fired shots, according to Alfaro and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The man was shot in the back and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 10:18 p.m., Alfaro and the medical examiner's office said.
About 8:50 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot during an attempted armed robbery in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.
The man was driving in a car and was stopped at a red light in the 8300 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue when a male attacker walked up to him and tried to rob him, Alfaro said. Police previously said the shooting happened in the 600 block of East 81st Street.
The man sped off, and the attacker fired shots, striking him in the right leg, Alfaro said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
About 8:33 p.m., a man was shot on the 5900 block of South Bishop Street in the Englewood neighborhood, police said.
The 40-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the right thigh and hand. He was sitting outside his vehicle when a light-colored car drove by and someone in the back seat fired shots, Alfaro said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
A 14-year-old boy was shot at 7:40 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Rockwell Street in the Little Village neighborhood, according to police.
The boy was standing on a corner when a dark-colored SUV drove by and shot at him before driving away. Police said the shooting is possibly gang-related.
The boy was shot in the arm and managed to get to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, police said.
An hour earlier, at about 6:40 p.m., a 34-year-old man was shot in the left thigh in the 3800 block of West Division Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.
The man was standing on a corner when he heard gunshots and was struck in the left leg. He managed to get to Norwegian-American Hospital, and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Alfaro said.
Earlier, a 20-year-old man was wounded Friday afternoon in a shooting on the South Side in the city's Burnside neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.
The shooting happened about 4:06 p.m. in the 800 block of East 91st Street, Sweeney said.
The man was standing outside when he heard shots and soon after felt pain, Sweeney said.
The man, who suffered a wound to the arm, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related.
