April 26--At least eight people, including a 14-year-old boy, were wounded in shootings on the city's South and West sides since Saturday morning.
Two shootings happened within minutes of each other in the Marquette Park neighborhood early Sunday.
About 1 a.m., two people were shot in the 6600 block of South Oakley Avenue, police said. A gunman approached from an alleyway and opened fire on a 35-year-old woman who was standing on the porch, police said.
The woman was shot in the thigh and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where her condition stabilized, police said. A 25-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting. The man took himself to Christ Medical Center where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the back. Police said early Sunday that the man's condition had stabilized.
A short time later, a 41-year-old woman was shot about five blocks away, police said. The woman was standing in the 6500 block of South Maplewood Avenue when she heard gunfire and felt pain. The woman realized she had been shot in the leg, police said. She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where she was treated for a gunshot wound.
About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a 29-year-old man was shot during a fight in the Avondale neighborhood on the North Side.
The man walked into Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after the shooting with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man told police he had been shot after getting into a fight with four men in the 3400 block of North Elston Avenue.
The man's condition had stabilized as of early Sunday. Police said the man is a documented gang member.
About midnight, a 26-year-old man was wounded during a drive-by shooting in the Gresham neighborhood.
The man was driving eastbound in the 1800 block of West 89th Street when someone in a dark-colored SUV pulled alongside him and opened fire. The man was shot in his left arm, police said. He drove himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park where he was listed in good condition early Saturday.
About 9:45 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old man walked into MetroSouth Medical Center after he had been shot during an attempted armed robbery.
The man told police he was shot in the 12200 block of South Union Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood. The 19-year-old was walking when he was approached by two gunman who attempted to rob him and shot him in the foot, police said.
The man drove himself to MetroSouth where he was listed in good condition.
Earlier Saturday evening, a drive-by in Chicago Lawn left a teenager hospitalized.
The shooting happened about 7:30 on the 5900 block of South Maplewood, when someone in a dark-colored SUV shot at a 14-year old standing in the street, police said.
The teenager was hit in the left ankle and taken to Mount Sinai, where he is in good condition. No one was in custody.
Saturday morning, a 26-year-old man was wounded in a shooting on the West Side in the Lawndale neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 11 a.m. in the 4100 block of West Cermak Road, said Chicago police spokesman Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.
The man had leg wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai, but his condition was not immediately available, Zala said.
No one was in custody and police were investigating.
