BRIEF: Man wounded in Elgin shooting

Nov. 09--A man was shot in the hand in Elgin early Sunday morning as he got out of his car to go to a party, police said.

The man, 24, of Elgin, was shot a little before 12:45 a.m. in the 300 block of Jewett Street, according to a news release from Elgin police. The man was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

Police were called to the scene at 12:43 a.m. and were told that the man was getting out of his car when he was shot, and he called police after he was wounded.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Elgin Police Gang Crimes Unit at 847-289-2646, call in an anonymous tip to 847-695-4195 or send a text message tip to 847411 and including with ELGINPD in the first line.
