Nov. 21--Police in puffy jackets and windbreakers gathered at the crime scene in Englewood early Saturday as the sleet turned to rain.
"We've got the girlfriend, and shell casings," one officer said to another.
Police shone their flashlights into a house with red Christmas bows in the windows. A woman hovered near the doorway, pulling her red hoodie tighter.
At 1:10 a.m., a 38-year-old man had been fatally shot near the house in the 1200 block of West 71st Place on the South Side. He was outside talking with his girlfriend when three people walked up and fired shots, police said. A bullet hit him in the armpit, and he was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital.
At least six other people have been wounded in shootings citywide since Friday afternoon, police said.
--At 4:15 a.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, said Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Ana Pacheco.
He was in a vehicle in the 3300 block of West LeMoyne Street when another vehicle drove past and someone inside fired shots. He was hit in the shoulder and taken to Stroger Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
--About 1:35 a.m. Saturday, a 26-year-old man was shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was outside near the corner of West 65th Street and South Maplewood Avenue when two people in black hoodies walked up and fired shots. He was hit in the arm and taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
--At 7:45 p.m. Friday, a 24-year-old man was wounded while driving near the intersection of South Calumet Avenue and East 70th Street in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side, police said.
He was shot in the rib cage on his right side, according to police, and was transported in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center.
He was driving south on Calumet when two juvenile males opened fire on the victim's vehicle, striking him and shattering the vehicle's windows, police said. The vehicle came to a stop near East 72nd Street and Calumet. Police were alerted when the victim's passenger flagged officers down.
--At 4:30 p.m. Friday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in West Englewood, police said.
He was on a sidewalk in the 6600 block of South Claremont Avenue on the South Side when someone exited a parked white vehicle, asked him a question, and fired one round, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Amina Greer.
He was hit in the right leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. His condition was stabilized.
--About 2:15 p.m. Friday, a 20-year-old man was wounded in West Pullman on the Far South Side, Greer said.
He was in the 11600 block of South Morgan Street when someone in black clothing walked up and fired several shots, then ran to a waiting vehicle with several people inside, Greer said. The vehicle drove west on 116th Street.
The man who was shot was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition.
--Just after 1 p.m. Friday, a 23-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in South Austin.
He was in the 800 block of North Central Avenue on the West Side when a brown minivan pulled up and someone inside fired shots, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
He was hit in the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Police said the man was being uncooperative, and they believe the attack was gang-related.
