BRIEF: Man, woman wounded in separate shootings

Dec. 05--A man and a woman were wounded in separate shootings Thursday on the South and West sides, police said.

In the latest incident, an 18-year-old man was shot around 7:30 p.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

The man was in the 5900 block of South Hermitage Avenue when an attacker walked up and fired gunshots, striking him in the leg, Gaines said.

He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where his condition stabilized, Gaines said.

No other details about the shooting were immediately available.

Earlier in the morning, a 19-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

She was in the 3900 block of West Arthington Street when a gunman walked up to her, fired shots and ran away, Alfaro said.

The woman was hit in both legs and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was listed in good condition, Alfaro said.

No one is in custody as a result of the shooting, and Area North detectives are investigating.
