Dec. 16--A man possibly with a weapon was spotted Tuesday evening on the campus of Chapman University, prompting officials to ask students and staff to shelter in place.
In an alert issued about 7:15 p.m., the Chapman University department of public safety said the man possibly armed with a weapon was spotted at DeMille Hall, which houses the testing, tutoring and learning center.
University officials initially asked students to evacuate the immediate area around the building, but advised only those inside DeMille to shelter in place, according to an updated public safety alert.
But the disruption to operations at the Orange County campus was brief.
About 8:17 p.m., the Orange Police Department and university officials said that no threat was found on campus and classes and normal operations could resume.
No gunfire was reported in connection with the incident.
Chapman University, located in the city of Orange, has an enrollment of more than 7,500 students.
