BRIEF: Man with gunshot wounds crashes his car and dies in Tarzana carport

May 06--A man suffering from multiple gunshots crashed his car into a parking structure in Tarzana, stepped out of the vehicle and died, police said Thursday.

The crash occurred in the 18600 block of Hatteras Street about 2:15 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Officer Matthew Ludwig.

Someone reported seeing a man on the ground in an apartment complex carport after a car crash. When police arrived at the scene, they saw the man had been shot at least twice, police said.

So far, there have been no reports of a shooting in the area, Ludwig said. The man's identity has not been released.

It was the second time this week police have come upon a car crash and found the driver suffering fatal wounds from a previous incident.

On Tuesday, police in Boyle Heights found that a man who crashed his car into a tree near Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center had been stabbed. The man died at the hospital.
