Jan. 22--Police are searching for a man who they say tried to pull a 13-year-old girl into an SUV in Skokie earlier this week.
About 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, the girl was walking from Old Orchard Junior High to Niles North High School when she approached by a man in a parking lot in the 4800 block of Golf Road, police said in a statement.
The man, who was driving a blue "SUV-crossover" vehicle, asked her for directions to a nearby restaurant. As the girl began telling him, he attempted to pull her towards his SUV, police said.
The girl then pulled out a "few metal padlocks on a string" and hit the man in his jaw. She then fled the scene, police said.
Police are now searching for the man, who they described as Hispanic, heavy set, about 5-foot-9 and in his 30s. He had black hair and was wearing a two-toned blue jacked, blue jeans and brown boots, police said. The girl told police the man was missing two fingers on his right hand and spoke with an accent.
Anyone with information are asked to contact Skokie police at (847) 982-5900.
