BRIEF: Man surrenders to cops after 5-hour standoff in Naperville

July 14--Naperville police on Tuesday morning took into custody a man who holed up in his residence for about five hours after he had reportedly pointed a handgun at a person at another location earlier in the day.

According to Naperville police Sgt. Bill Davis, officers responded to a call about 3 a.m. of a person pointing a gun at another person in the 900 block of Sheridan Circle. By the time police arrived, it was determined the man had returned to his residence in the 2100 block of Allegre Circle, Davis said.

Knowing the man might be armed, police demanded he come out and when he didn't, negotiations between the man and the police Special Response Team took place until the man surrendered to police about 8:15 a.m., Davis said.

At least one other person was in the residence on Allegre.

No one was injured at either location. A second person was also taken into custody in connection with the incident, Davis said.

The police investigation of the incident was continuing.
