Jan. 06--A man sitting in his car was shot and wounded Monday afternoon in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The man was hit by gunfire just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Adams Boulevard, said Lt. Ellis Imaizumi, a watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Community Police Station.
While attempting to drive away from the scene in the Central-Alameda neighborhood, the shooting victim crashed into another car, Imaizumi said.
The shooting victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive, Imaizumi said. The driver of the other car was not injured.
Gang detectives are investigating the incident.
In the last six months, there have been 235 violent crimes in the Central-Alameda neighborhood, according to data compiled by the Los Angeles Times.
