BRIEF: Man shot to death near his home in south suburban Riverdale

April 15--A Riverdale man was shot to death outside of his home Tuesday night, authorities said Wednesday.

Robert Ross, 39, was found by police when they were called to the 13800 block of Edbrooke Avenue about 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday to follow up on reports of a man who was unresponsive, according to a police news release. They found him on a lawn in that block, unresponsive.

Ross, who lived on the same block, was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Ross died from a gunshot wound to the back in a homicide, the medical examiner's office determined Wednesday following an autopsy.

Police released no further details regarding the shooting, but said they are working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to investigate. Police asked that anyone with information call 708-841-2203, extension 2, and ask for the detective division.
