Feb. 19--A man was killed, and four others, including a 12-year-old boy, were wounded in separate shootings Thursday on the West, South and Southwest sides, Chicago police said.
In the first shooting, a man was fatally shot on Lavergne Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, less than two blocks from where another man was fatally shot on Lavergne two days ago, according to police.
The 28-year-old man, identified as Richard Thrasher of the 4900 block of West Thomas Street, killed Thursday was shot about 8:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Lavergne, just north of Augusta Boulevard, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
He was found by officers who were responding to a call of a person shot. Paramedics took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:06 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office.
The man killed Tuesday, Rashawn Gooden, was shot at Division Street and Lavergne about 9 a.m. Gooden, 21, lived in the 4900 block of West Division, a couple of blocks from where he was shot.
In other shootings:
--A 12-year-old boy was shot in the 3000 block of West 54th Street in the Gage Park neighborhood at 9:05 p.m., police said.
The boy was on the sidewalk when a red SUV pulled up and its driver fired shots, according to police. He was shot in the chest and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
No one was in custody early Friday, and no other information was immediately available.
--A 50-year-old man showed up at West Suburban Medical Center after getting shot about 8 p.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.
The man was standing on a sidewalk in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street when a gray sedan pulled up and someone inside fired shots, striking the man in the leg, Zala said.
The man managed to get himself to the hospital. He is listed in good condition, Zala said.
--Two men were shot Thursday afternoon in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.
The shooting happened about 2:11 p.m. in the 4800 block of South Throop Street. Details were scarce, but one victim, 24, suffered wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, Trainor said.
The second victim, 22, was shot in the left foot. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, Trainor said.
Police believe the Back of the Yards attack was gang-related.
