2 dead, 2 wounded in shootings in Chicago since Wednesday evening

Oct. 15--Two men were killed and two other people have been wounded in shootings in Chicago since Wednesday evening, police said.

At about 11 p.m. Wednesday, an 18-year-old man was killed in a shooting that also wounded a 16-year-old boy, according to Chicago police spokesman Officer Ron Gaines.

They were on a sidewalk in the 9700 block of South Peoria Street when someone started shooting from a nearby SUV, Gaines said.

The 18-year-old was shot in the chest and abdomen and pronounced dead on the scene. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Michael Fenner Jr., of the 9400 block of South Justine Street.

The 16-year-old was shot in the groin and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. His condition was stabilized.

At about 5:20 p.m., a 22-year-old man was fatally shot in Chatham, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.

He was outside near the intersection of 77th Street and Indiana Avenue when someone walked up and began shooting at him, Sweeney said. He was hit several times in the chest and later pronounced dead.

The medical examiner's office identified him as Henry Rhayes, of the 300 block of East 77th Street.

At about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, a 33-year-old man was shot and wounded in Lawndale, Gaines said.

He was fighting with the mother of his child in the 1500 block of South Avers Avenue when the woman's current boyfriend or husband came outside and shot him in the leg, Gaines said.

He went to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.
