9 wounded in city shootings

Aug. 31--At least nine people were wounded in shootings across the city Sunday night and early Monday, according to police.

All three shootings Monday morning occurred on the Far South Side. Two of those happened during robberies, police said.

The most recent of those three was about 5:15 a.m. in the 13200 block of South Eberhart Avenue in the Golden Gate neighborhood, where a 35-year-old man was shot in the upper left side of his torso, police said. He was outside when someone walked up and shot him, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

About 2:25 a.m., a 23-year-old man was at a red light in the 10000 block of South Halsted Avenue in the Washington Heights neighborhood when someone got out of another car and tried to rob him before shooting him in the arm, police said. The 23-year-old drove to Roseland Community Hospital where he was treated for his wounds.

A 28-year-old man told police he was shot about 12:30 a.m. in the 10700 block of South Wentworth Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood. He said two men tried to rob him before one shot him in the right shin. He walked into Roseland hospital with his wound.

In other shootings:

--A man and two teens were shot in the 8300 block of South Maryland Avenue just before midnight Sunday, police said. A 22-year-old man was taken to Christ Medical Center with wounds to his neck and back. Two 17-year-old boys, each with a leg wound, were taken to Stroger Hospital. All three had their conditions stabilized, police said.

--A 19-year-old and a 21-year-old man were injured about 8 p.m. Sunday on the 1200 block of West Touhy Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the Far North Side, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

The younger man was shot in the right arm and abdomen, Zala said. The man was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

The older man was shot in the right leg and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Police said the two men were gang members. The shooting happened at Leone Beach Park.

--A 19-year-old man was injured after he was shot Sunday afternoon in the South Chicago neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The shooting happened at 4:11 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Escanaba Avenue, police said. The man was on that block when he was shot in the foot. The man managed to get himself to South Shore Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
