March 17--At least seven people were wounded in shootings citywide on Wednesday, including a man shot on Lake Shore Drive, according to police.
Late Wednesday night, authorities received multiple reports that people inside two vehicles on Lake Shore Drive were shooting at each other. At about 10:30 p.m., at least one of the vehicles crashed in the 500 block of North Lake Shore Drive, and the people inside ran away, according to law enforcement sources.
One of them, a 22-year-old man, was found about half a mile away near the intersection of Lower Randolph Street and Lake Shore Drive. He had a gunshot wound to his lower back, and was taken by ambulance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
As of early Thursday, authorities did not have information about where exactly on Lake Shore Drive the man had been shot.
At 10:05 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood. He was driving through an alley in the 6700 block of South Artesian Avenue when two people fired shots from a gangway, hitting him in the right shoulder and left hand. He went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and his condition was stabilized.
Just before 10 p.m., a 22-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the hand in The Gap neighborhood, police said. He was in the 3400 block of South Prairie Avenue when he injured himself. He went to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in good condition.
At 8:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the Hermosa neighborhood, in the 4200 block of West Dickens Avenue. He was shot in the abdomen and taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital. No information was immediately available about the circumstances of the shooting.
About 4 p.m. a shooting left a 21-year-old man in fair condition after he was shot in the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street in Lawndale. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, police said.
At 1:50 p.m., someone shot a 25-year-old man in the leg in Englewood. He was in the 6800 block of South Elizabeth Street and got himself to St. Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center.
The man told police he was walking down the street when he heard shots and felt pain. A dark-colored car fled, police said. No one is in custody. The 25-year-old's condition was stabilized.
About 10 a.m. a 43-year-old man was shot in both legs in an attack in the Homan Square neighborhood. He was shot in the 3400 block of West Harrison Street and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, but his condition and the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available. Police collecting evidence in the area found a revolver in the street. No one was in custody.
