May 10--A man shot in East Chatham early Friday died over the weekend, authorities said.
Michael Montgomery, 25, was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. Saturday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, after being shot in the 8200 block of South Maryland Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which released Montgomery's name Sunday evening.
Police had said the victim was shot about 12:20 a.m. Friday.
Police responded to calls about gunfire in the 8200 block of South Maryland Avenue and found the man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head, police said at the time.
The morning of the shooting, police cordoned off a small stretch of Maryland south of 82nd Street. The man's jacket lay on the sidewalk next to a pool of blood.
A group of officers walked up and one officer shined a flashlight on the sidewalk.
