BRIEF: Man shot earlier this month in Chatham dies

Oct. 27--A 21-year-old man who was shot earlier this month in the Chatham community on the South Side has died, authorities said Monday.

Malek Taylor, of the 9500 block of South Forest Avenue, was pronounced dead at 2:01 p.m. Friday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy conducted Monday determined that Taylor died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the office.

Officer Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for Chicago police, said Taylor was shot in the head in the 8700 block of South Wabash Avenue about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday.

A witness told police that a vehicle approached the victim, and someone inside fired shots that struck Taylor. The vehicle fled south on Wabash after the attack.

Taylor was initially taken to Christ in critical condition.
