BRIEF: Man shot 2 weeks ago dies from injuries

Dec. 25--A Marquette Park neighborhood man shot two weeks ago has died from his injuries, authorities said.

Marrecus Garrett, 34, of the 6800 block of South Talman Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:51 a.m. Tuesday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Garrett, who was shot Dec. 10 on the block where he lived, died from multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy Wednesday.

Garrett was sitting in a parked vehicle about 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 10 when another vehicle pulled up and someone opened fire, shooting him, said Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney.

Garrett would have turned 35 on Christmas, according to court records.

Following the shooting, someone drove Garrett to Christ Medical Center rather than calling for an ambulance, police said.

No one was in custody.
