BRIEF: Man shoots, kills brother during brawl, deputies say

Nov. 17--A 44-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of shooting and killing his brother during a fight in Compton, authorities said.

Witnesses told authorities that the man and his 25-year-old brother got into an argument, which quickly turned into a brawl, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

After the fight, the witnesses told authorities, the suspect left but then returned to the home in the 2400 block of West Tichenor Street with a handgun at about 4:43 p.m.

Moody said the suspect told deputies he shot and killed his younger brother.

Deputies found the younger brother suffering from gunshot wounds in the home's backyard, where he later died, Moody said.

His death is the 27th homicide in the last 12 months in Compton, according to The Times Homicide Report.

Twenty-three of the 27 victims died from gunshot wounds.
