BRIEF: Man seriously hurt in stabbing near Art Institute

June 11--A 57-year-old man was seriously wounded after being stabbed near the Art Institute on Wednesday afternoon.

The stabbing happened at 4:43 p.m. in the 100 block of East Monroe Street in the Loop, police said.

The man was stabbed in the neck and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was in serious condition, police said.

Art Institute officials provided detailed descriptions of the suspect, and he was arrested on Lower Wacker Drive after he left the scene, police said.

Just south of the Art Institute's iconic lions, in the South Garden, was a single ribbon of crime tape draped in between a railing and a tree. All three gates to the space were closed as a group of police officers huddled outside.

Police were searching the South Garden with a canine unit, drawing onlookers.
