BRIEF: Man seriously hurt in South Side crash

Dec. 29--A 31-year-old man was seriously injured after crashing into several parked cars in the Fernwood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

About 2:45 a.m., the man was driving a dark-colored car south in the 9900 block of South State Street when he hit a parked car, which then crashed into several other parked vehicles, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, Alfaro said. No other injuries were reported.

In addition to the car the 31-year-old was driving, at least four other vehicles were damaged.

It was not immediately known what caused the driver to crash. Police could not immediatley say if alcohol was a factor.
