BRIEF: Man rescued out of water at North Avenue Beach

Feb. 01--A man was rescued after he jumped into Lake Michigan at North Avenue Beach early Sunday morning in an attempt to commit suicide, police said.

The man, who was in his 40s or 50s, indicated that he wanted to end his life and jumped into the water near 1600 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 3:50 a.m., police said.

Chicago Fire Department and the city's Marine Unit responded to the scene. The man was pulled out of the water by fire department personnel, police said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.
