BRIEF: Man released without charges following North Side shooting

Feb. 05--A man arrested following a shooting in the Lakeview neighborhood Thursday morning has been released without charges, according to police.

The 67-year-old North Riverside man shot a 55-year-old man about 11 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of West Oakdale Avenue, according to police.

Although an official police arrest website indicated the shooter had been charged with aggravated battery, Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman, said Friday the man had been released without charges.

The two were involved in an argument and the older man pulled out a gun and shot the man in the chest, police said Thursday. The man who was injured was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

The shooter, who has a concealed-carry permit, remained at the scene following the incident and was questioned by police, according to a Facebook post by the office of Ald. Tom Tunney, 44th.
