March 02--A man was hospitalized in good condition after being rescued Monday afternoon from the Chicago River in the Loop, officials said.
Chicago Fire Department personnel responded near LaSalle Street and Wacker Drive at 2:34 p.m. for a person in the water, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.
Crews took the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, Hernandez said.
Members of a construction crew were doing work on a barge nearby when they heard a splash in the the river, according to a member of the crew.
When they looked in that direction, they saw a man in the water, a crew member said.
A crew member grabbed a life ring and tossed it to the man, who grabbed it and held on until firefighters arrived, according to the witness.
The man who tossed the ring declined to be interviewed.
